EoMEoTE #16 - The Da Clucki Code

Can you read that?  No?  Well, just hold your computer up to a mirror and it will all become clear ;-).  Aaaaaah, that's better.  Easy peasy.  The mystery is revealed - it's that time again, time for the all-singing clucking, all-dancing bi-monthly ovo-literary event that is the End of Month Egg on Toast Extravaganza! 

Those of you who have been reading this blog for a while will know by now that this is an event born out of my and Anthony's fertile imaginations and barren fridges:  it's the end of the month, payday has yet to come, you're hungry and there's nothing in the fridge except, erm, egs and bread.  What to make, what to make...  Somewhere along the line the event also acquired a literary slant, with limericks, haikus and horror movies all featuring as themes alongside the eggs and toast (see below for a list of the themes so far). But first, let's get the basics out of the way.  There are only two Really Rigid rules.  You must make a dish (savoury or sweet; complex or simple):

1. containing eggs of some description; and

2. containing bread or indeed any kind of carbohydrate to which heat has been applied.

Once you've made your dish, do a little write-up and a photo - this is where the theme comes in.  This month, what with the international frenzy surrounding the movie release of Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code, and what with the fertile ground for parody provided by the book/movie and it's cardboard cut-out characters, I have decreed the theme to be The Da Clucki Code - a parody in some shape or form of the Da Vinci Code.  Before I get a flood of letters telling me that a) some people haven't seen the film/read the book and b) it is an evil book/film that undermines all that is good and they won't be seeing it in the near future - hold your horses!!  I'm not suggesting for a millisecond that you see the film!!  But even if you haven't seen the film, it's likely that you've gathered from all the hullabloo surrounding it some of the main themes and characters - just go with those themes, characters and ideas.  Or if you can't even go that far, just include some sort of reference to the film in your post.  Maybe an albino omelette with only egg-whites.  Maybe a print of The Last Supper in the background of your photo of French toast.  Maybe a tiny photo of Tom Hanks stuck to your boiled egg.  Come on people, get creative - this is EoMEoTe and anything goes! 

Once you've let your creative juices run wild, put a post up on your blog and send me a link or leave it in a comment to this post.  If you want to play along but don't have a blog of your own, send me your whole post and I will put it up for you on Cooksister.  It's silly to talk about "deadline" and EoMEoTE in the same sentence, so let's just say this is a guideline - try and have your post up by next weekend (4 June), and I will do the roundup sometime after that.

And remember:  if, while you're busy with your creation, an albino monk wielding a candlestick knocks on your door, beware!  He's not planning to use his candlestick to help you whip your egg whites...! :o)

Alright! I was hoping this would be coming around soon.

Well, the eggs and toast part, not so much the book/movie.

But don't worry; if I could make it through the Harry Potter edition without reading any of the books, I'm sure I can figure out what to do with this mess! I mean, lovely theme!

Oh, not having read the book is seldom a bar to participating!! The key this month is creativity - a graphic representation, an oblique reference to the book in the title of the dish... the possibilities are endless. I think I created this theme purely because I secretly long to see the silly book parodied!
