Cooksister: The Recipes
Every now and again I take a trawl through my archives and I'm amazed at some of the recipes I find - I actually made that?? I figure that if I have forgotten about them, then you probably have too. So here's a new feature for 2007: an index of all the recipes on this site, for your viewing pleasure! I have arranged them according to course (starter, main, etc.) and broadly into fish, meat or vegetables, as well as separate categories for breakfasts, soups and baked goods. If I'm feeling very energetic I may later also classify them according to main ingredient (when I have spare time, LOL!). I have also put a permanent link to this index in my left-hand column to make browsing and finding recipes on Cooksister even easy-peasier. Enjoy!

Dear Cooksister,

I couldn´t help but to hand the address over to friends who love South Africa.

I love your list of recipes! I'm going to try and get my mom's recipe for sousboontjes out of her. Did you ever have them in SA? I am also so pleased to see the recipe for boerenboontjies - we used to have them a lot but I never actually saw them being made so wasn't sure how to reproduce them! Another recipe I want from my mom is her vinegar pudding. I thought a malva pudding might be similar but it wasn't quite the same. Watch my blog - I'm going to try making your namesake - koeksusters!

When I started my blog, I began indexing all my recipes but in the last month its just been too time consuming to update, so I've resorted to doing what everyine else does - putting them in with the posts.
It's a very good idea to pop all the recipe posts on one page like you have with links. I think I might do the same with my recent recipes.

What a wonderful list of recipes. I plan on trying at least six of them. Super to have a list in one place.

That's quite a list...and how did I miss the deep-fried Mars bars?

Hi Helene
Glad you stumbled across my blog - and even happier to hear how much you enjoyed it! I hope your South African friends share your opinion :)
Hi Ash
I do remember having sousboontjies but never being that keen on them (an early legume dislike!) - I really should try them again now that I'm in love with legumes. It's the same with slaphakskeentjies - I never used to see the point but now I love them - go figure! I have some antique South African recipe books and I'm sure I can dig out an asynpoeding recipe for you if you like - let me know.
Hi Ros
I just realised that my recipes were getting lost in amongst all the other stuff and I though it would be nice to have them all in one place, to remind myself that I don't eat out every night (although some weeks it seems like it!!). I'd love to have a one-stop repostitory of all your lovely recipies, so can't wait for your index :)
Hi Elle
Glad you like the "upgrade"! And I'm dying to know which six you will be making...
Hi David
I know - I even surprised myself!! And no, I don't know either how you missed the Mars Bar epic... It's one of those things like bungee jumping, that you have to do once so that you never have to do it again!

Hi Santos
"...that's a great amount of work...". And this from the woman who colour-codes her books?!? :o) (which *rocks*, btw!)
Glad you like the list - and the fact that you can now unearth little gems like the souskluitjies is precisely why I did it. We aim to serve ;-)

Hi Jeanne, I'd love it if you could find an asynpoeding recipe for me. Not that I need to eat one right now (diet) but I'd love to have one!

Hi Ash
I actually went one better - I test-drove one for you over the weekend! Will e-mail you about it shortly.
Hi Stephanie
It's a pleasure - and at least it means I can now find MY OWN recipes!

Hi - I recently did a google search for butternut soup and your site appeared about third on the list. The recipe looked so simple in comparison to others I looked at and considering this was our first attempt (and so not wanting to buy ingredients that may never see the light of day again!) yours got the winning vote! And do you know what? It genuinely was as amazing as you claim!! The first time we made it it was one of those January days that England is so good at - scarf-worthy but gloriously sunny - and accompanied by my husbands homemade olive bread it made the perfet winter warmer. Absolutely delicious and so simple too - I can see this recipe being passed on through our family! Thanks for sharing it!

I was so happy when i came across your site - the measurements are what i can understand, not a pound of this and a pound of that and 350f, then you spend half the time trying to convert them or find someone who may be able to help you convert them and that is so time consuming that you then don't even bother trying to make the recipe!! What a pleasure to see home grown recipes on the net!! Yippee!!
